Young India batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi has again hogged the limelight with a magnificent century in the Youth Test match against Australia at the Ian Healy Oval, Brisbane. The 14-year-old left-hander hammered a breathtaking 113 runs from only 86 balls, hitting his hundred in 78 balls with eight fours and seven sixes.
His innings not just placed India in control of the match but also saw him shatter some long-standing records.
Vaibhav's century is now the quickest hundred in Youth Tests on Australian soil. He broke Liam Blackford's record of a 124-ball hundred against England U19 in January 2023. This feat reflects the aggressive style of play of the young batter who has been in scintillating form over the last few months.
What adds to the greatness of this achievement is that Vaibhav has now joined Brendon McCullum as the only player to have two Youth Test centuries off fewer than 100 balls. He had previously recorded a thunderous 58-ball hundred against Australia U19 in 2024.
Suryavanshi, at the mere age of 14, has become the youngest player to do so in the Youth Test cricket, which is a very rare feat.
Besides his ability to score quickly, Vaibhav has also been re-writing record books with his ability to hit sixes. Going into the match, he was just three sixes away from Ayush Mhatre's record for the most sixes hit by an Indian in Youth Tests. With his eight towering sixes, he went past the record comfortably and currently has 15 sixes in Youth Test cricket.
This came immediately after he surpassed Unmukt Chand's record for highest sixes in Youth ODIs, when he surpassed Chand's record of 38 sixes in the second Youth ODI against Australia recently.
Australia U19 were dismissed for 243 runs in the first innings. Courtesy Vaibhav's 113-run whirlwind batting, India rapidly closed in on the total. When he was caught out by Hayden Schiller for 113, India were only 23 short of Australia's score. With the solid platform laid, now India have a golden opportunity to bat the hosts out of the match.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s rapid rise has made him one of the most exciting young talents in Indian cricket. His fearless batting at such a young age is giving fans a glimpse of what the future holds.
