While 2025 had many highs and lows for the Indian team, whatever Virat Kohli touched turned to gold, both in international and domestic cricket. The former India captain is currently representing Delhi in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, and he has already bagged Player of the Match awards in the two games he has played so far.

Virat Kohli dropped a bombshell midway through IPL 2025 when he called time on his Test career. The right-handed batter, who favoured five-day cricket over any other format, was expected to play a significant role during the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. However, his abrupt retirement forced India to change their plans heading into the 2025-2027 World Test Championship cycle.
Kohli finished his Test career with a stellar record. He amassed 9230 runs from 123 Tests at a staggering average of 46.85. The veteran also smashed 31 half-centuries and 30 tons during his illustrious career in the red-ball format, stepping down as one of the most prolific batters of the modern-day era, which inspired millions of fans to watch Test cricket.
Virat Kohli and India's long wait for a 50-over ICC title ended earlier this year. He played a key role in India's triumph in the 2025 Champions Trophy. Kohli was the second-highest run-getter for the Men in Blue in the tournament, and fifth overall, as the Men in Blue were the outright winners of the eight-team tournament.
During the tournament, Kohli's standout performances came against Pakistan in the group stage and Australia in the semi-final. The seasoned campaigner scored an unbeaten 100 off 111 against the Men in Green. Meanwhile, against the Aussies, he slammed an unbeaten 98-ball 84, playing a crucial role in India's memorable triumph.
Kohli is the only cricketer to have played 18 seasons for the same franchise in the IPL. However, the IPL trophy eluded the iconic cricketer and his franchise, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Kohli put his heart and soul into the team and went through highs and lows alongside the passionate fanbase.
Kohli won the Orange Cap twice, led the team to the final once, but never managed to get his hands on the coveted trophy. However, 2025 changed all of that as RCB tasted success under Rajat Patidar's leadership, ending their drought and adding a prestigious trophy to Kohli's cabinet. During the tournament, Kohli amassed 657 runs in 15 innings at an average of 54.75, finishing as the third on the list of leading run-getters.
