Both India and Pakistan have played two matches each in the group stage, sitting in first and second place, respectively, in Group A with four points each. India leads on net run rate (+3.050) compared to Pakistan’s +0.932 heading into their blockbuster clash tonight, Sunday, at R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
The two sides are set to lock horns at 7:00 PM local time, but Sri Lanka's Meteorology Department has warned that a low-pressure system could form in the south-eastern Bay of Bengal around match day, potentially bringing unseasonal rain to Colombo.
Rain forecasts indicate a 50-70% chance of precipitation, with heavy thundershowers predicted between 4 PM and 6 PM local time. So, there is a high chance that Toss could be delayed, and overs might be reduced as well.

However, the weather has disrupted India-Pakistan matches before. During the 2023 Asia Cup, their group-stage game in Kandy was abandoned due to rain. India was bowled out for 266 in 48.5 overs, with persistent rain forcing officials to call off Pakistan's chase. Both teams took one point each from the "no-result."
In T20 World Cup history, India holds a commanding 7-1 head-to-head record over Pakistan. The Men in Blue claimed victories in 2007, 2012, 2014, 2016, 2022, and 2024, while Pakistan's lone victory came in the 2021 edition when they won by 10 wickets.
The two teams last faced off in the 2025 Asia Cup final in Dubai, where India chased down 147 in 19.4 overs. Thanks to Tilak Varma, who anchored the chase with an unbeaten 69 off 53 deliveries, while Kuldeep Yadav restricted Pakistan to 146 all out by taking four wickets for 30 runs.
For Sunday's encounter, India is expected to welcome back opener Abhishek Sharma, replacing Sanju Samson in the XI. But if rain washes out this fixture, both teams will share one point each since there is no reserve day for group-stage matches.
And if that happens, it will significantly impact the Super 8 qualification race, though India would still have the edge due to their higher net run rate.
