‘Whistle Podu’ Taunt? Ishan Kishan Faces Heat From CSK Fans After SRH Victory

Ishan Kishan of Sunrisers Hyderabad found himself in the middle of a controversy following SRH's crucial victory over Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2026 on Monday at MA Chidambaram Stadium.

Kishan was pivotal in SRH's successful chase of 181 scoring a match-winning and composed 70 off 47 balls. The inning helped SRH secure a place in the top-four whilst CSK's hopes of qualification for the playoffs took a massive hit after the loss.

However it was his actions post-game that were discussed on social media.

Post the completion of the chase with one over to go, Kishan made a gesture at the home crowd at Chepauk. He initially made a "home" symbol with his hands and then seemed to whistle at the crowd, before seemingly asking them to go home. A video of the incident went viral across the internet.

The gesture was not well received by several CSK supporters, who took to social media to criticize the celebration as 'unnecessary' following a crucial defeat for Chennai. Some fans of the Super Kings even stated that SRH have now entered their 'hate-watch' list due to the gesture.

Kishan elaborates on difficult conditions post match-winning knock

The left-handed batter was subsequently adjudged Player of the Match and in the post-game presentation admitted that batting conditions were tough and he decided to stay till the end to get the job done.

Kishan stated.

"I think when I was wicketkeeping I just felt like this wicket is not easy. I still felt chasing this total is going to be a bit too much because, the wicket was not at all easy especially when spinners were bowling and those slow balls working out very well but at the same time, as a number three batter I just felt my job is to just try and finish the game because batters coming in, especially at the back end it's difficult for them to take singles and at the same time score boundaries. So I had to just play it till the last over."

The win confirmed SRH's spot in the playoffs and put them in a great position to contend for the title. CSK's position has become incredibly difficult now with the five time champions needing to win their final league game and rely on other results for them to qualify for the playoffs.
