Day two of the ICC World Test Championship Final at Lord’s saw Australia seize the upper hand, thanks to fast bowling by captain Pat Cummins.

South Africa resumed their innings at 43/4, trailing Australia’s first-innings total of 212. However, any hopes of a South African comeback were swiftly dashed when Cummins tore through the batting order, finishing with remarkable figures of 6 for 28, bowling South Africa out for just 138.

His performance not only gave Australia a vital first-innings lead but also etched his name in the record books. Cummins became just the eighth Australian to reach 300 Test wickets. It was his 14th five-wicket haul in Tests, and notably, he is the first fast-bowling captain to achieve this milestone while leading in a WTC Final.

“300 Test Wickets, and a six-for in the Ultimate Test. Australian Captain Pat Cummins led from the front on Day 2 at Lord’s,” read a post on the ICC’s official page.

Fans flooded social media with praise. “Pat Cummins always stands up at the big moments,” one comment read. “Great player, and most importantly, a great person who plays the game in the right spirit.” Another noted the thrilling nature of the final: “Yesterday Rabada five-fer and today Cummins six-for… What a Test match!”

By stumps, Australia had reached 144/8 in their second innings, extending their lead to 218 runs.
