If you believed Yashasvi Jaiswal was only a talented batsman, think again. On the opening day of the second Test between India and the West Indies at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Jaiswal briefly took on the role of a doctor after his captain, Shubman Gill, was involved in a painful collision while going for a quick single.
The incident happened when Jaiswal flicked a delivery from West Indies pacer Anderson Phillip towards midwicket and called for a sharp run. The fielder reacted swiftly, collecting the ball and throwing it toward the wicketkeeper’s end, but the throw went astray. In trying to avoid the errant throw, Gill collided awkwardly with West Indies wicketkeeper Tevin Imlach, leaving both players visibly shaken.
Medical staff from both teams rushed in immediately. However, before the professionals could intervene, Jaiswal added a lighthearted touch. In a humorous moment, the young opener performed a mock concussion test on Gill, asking him to count his fingers—a playful nod to the standard concussion protocol.

Thankfully, Gill was cleared to continue, and alongside Jaiswal, helped India close Day 1 at 318/2 after exactly 90 overs. Yashasvi Jaiswal played a brilliant innings, scoring the seventh century of his Test career and remained unbeaten on 173 at stumps. Gill, meanwhile, was 20 not out, with the duo putting together an unbroken 67-run partnership for the third wicket.
India are looking to secure a 2-0 series sweep following their commanding innings win in Ahmedabad. Batting first under Shubman Gill’s captaincy, the hosts got off to a solid start in their pursuit of a big first-innings total.
KL Rahul contributed 38 runs off 54 balls but was stumped by a sharp delivery from Jomel Warrican, who also dismissed B Sai Sudharsan later. Sudharsan, under pressure to maintain his place, delivered a career-best 87.
