'Everything, sleep better, score better': Gerwyn Price laments opening Australian Darts Masters display

Gerwyn Price admitted he wasn’t at his best despite moving into the next round of the 2025 Australian Darts Masters, outlining exactly what went wrong and what needs fixing before his next outing.

Price overcame his opponent Joe Comito but was left frustrated with his scoring power, describing the performance as “okay in patches” and conceding that his opponent also had good spells. Comito has often topped the Australian standings and has been one of the best players in their events.

But he has yet to bring it to the big stage appearing at the World Championship for instance and not being able to produce his best there. 'The Water Boy' though likely much to the behest of those who backed an easy win for Price made it more of a game than perhaps was expected. While Price praised Comito, he admitted a total reset is needed for tomorrow. He next faces Chris Dobey who took down Tim Pusey in a comeback win.

“Yeah, I was okay in patches. I think he played alright in patches as well. It was a bit frustrating for myself — I couldn’t score as well as I wanted to,” Price said. “But, you know, we’re into tomorrow, and that’s all that matters. Yeah, I look forward to playing again.”

Asked what he needs to improve ahead of the next match, Price didn’t hold back in his self-assessment. “Everything. Sleep better, get up a little bit later. Hopefully get a good night’s sleep tonight and prepare a little bit better for tomorrow,” he explained. “I need to score better. I think I took my chances today quite well, but I just couldn’t score. If I can score a bit better tomorrow, I’ll be fine.” Despite the dip in performance, the Welshman remains confident that with sharper scoring and better preparation, he’ll be ready to push on in the tournament.
