Fifty-year-old Jonny Clayton enters list of darts icons after title at Dutch Darts Championship

Jonny Clayton put himself in an illustrious list after winning the Dutch Darts Championship last weekend. For "The Ferret," it was his third Euro Tour title.

Clayton, who had lost to Josh Rock in last year's Dutch Darts Championship final, successively defeated Max Hopp (6-2), Ross Smith (6-5), Danny Noppert (6-4), Jonny Clayton (7-5) and Niko Springer (6-4).

The 50-year-old Welshman is only the fourth over-50 player to win a Euro Tour tournament. Darts legend Phil Taylor did so four times, including a Euro Tour title at age 55 at the Austrian Darts Open in 2016. Taylor also won a Euro Tour when he was 53, 52 and 51.

Peter Wright also won three of his nine Euro Tour titles after he passed 50. His last Euro Tour title was the German Darts Championship in 2024, when "Snakebite" was 54. Gary Anderson was 54 when he added this year's European Darts Grand Prix to his record.

So Clayton has now added himself to this list. 'The Ferret' reached the age of 50 on October 4, 2024. Andrew Gilding also had the chance to add himself to this list earlier this year. The 54-year-old lost to Anderson in the final of the European Darts Grand Prix.
