When Scott Williams steps onto the stage, it is immediately clear: Here is a showman pur sang. With his energetic charisma and flamboyant style, he effortlessly captivates the audience. Yet it is almost unimaginable that this crowd pleaser once simply stood stacking boxes in a warehouse.
The 35-year-old Williams still has to regularly pinch himself that darts really is his job these days. "I have worked hard," he says in an interview with Daily Star Sport. "I worked in a warehouse and for most of my adult life darts was just a hobby. And then I found out I was good at it."
His talent did not go unnoticed. Darts brand Target saw potential in the then-amateur and decided to give him a chance. "I still look at it a bit weird, that it is my job and it is what I do and a team like Target were happy to take me on when I was just an amateur, because they could see the potential that I had. I owe them a lot, as well as my family and friends who have supported me throughout the journey."
Meanwhile, Williams stands among such big names as Phil Taylor, Chris Dobey and Stephen Bunting. Target Darts recently released a new line of K-Flex shafts, but for Williams it was a particularly special moment because of the launch of his own Generation Two darts.
"The darts are spectacular," he added.. “I’ve been using them for just over a year now! I’m really happy with Target Darts being able to release the Generation Two’s - they’re a similar shape to my Generation One’s with a little bit more grip here and a little bit less grip there. It's been a help to change my darts with the change in my throw and the way I play the game!”
The promotional video for the new darts also featured a creative nod to his past. Williams jokes, "So it’s like they could get you a nice Lamborghini but instead we’re going to get you working in a warehouse…
“We had great fun making it, I loved the video when it came out and I was as so happy and so pleased they could put something so creative together!"
