Scottish duo Scott Campbell and John Henderson secured the first spot into the final night of the MODUS Super Series International Pairs Week after a wildly exciting conclusion to proceedings. They were also 100/1 shots at the start of play on Wednesday.
This week, the organization invited twelve duos from as many different countries to compete for the title. From Monday through Wednesday, six pairs from six countries were involved in Group A. Each day they played one match against each other, making it a total of 15 matches. It also saw the amusing moment that Van Trijp fell off the stage as they perhaps didn't think through the logistics of four men on a small stage.
At the top, the difference was particularly small. Scotland (Scott Campbell and John Henderson), the Netherlands (Jimmy van Schie and Danny van Trijp) and Wales (Richie Burnett and Kurt Parry) all finished on twenty points. Of this trio, Wales had the worst leg difference. Scotland and the Netherlands had an equal leg balance, but because Scotland had won twice against the Netherlands, Campbell and Henderson became group winners.
The Netherlands, as well as Wales, will get a second chance in Group B on Thursday and Friday, where they will be joined by duos from Germany, Ireland and Kenya. From this group, three countries will advance to the final night. England, Belgium, Gibraltar, Northern Ireland, France and Poland will make their appearance in Group C. In this group, two more spots can be earned for the finals night.
It mirrors the PDC format with pairs the name of the game but will see teams such as Kenya together who without a Tour Card holder or qualifying through the African route wouldn't get a spot in the main PDC tournament. So it offers a different perspective and a refreshing concept at that.
