The Eissporthalle in Frankfurt will host the World Cup of Darts from Thursday, July 12 to Sunday, July 15. Wales has already won the tournament twice, each time with Gerwyn Price and Jonny Clayton as a duo. Clayton has great faith in a third title.
Wednesday the draw for the 2025 World Cup of Darts took place. A total of 36 countries will start in the group stage. Twelve groups were made of three countries each and only the group winner will advance to the knockout stage. There they will be joined by top nations England (Luke Humphries and Luke Littler), Wales (Jonny Clayton and Gerwyn Price), Scotland (Gary Anderson and Peter Wright) and Northern Ireland (Josh Rock and Daryl Gurney).
The Netherlands is assigned to Italy and Hungary in Group A. The Italian team includes Michele Turetta and Massimo Dalla Rosa, while György Jehirszki and Gergely Lakatos make up the Hungarian duo. Belgium will meet Philippines in the pool phase. Christian Perez and Alexis Toylo have been replaced by Lourence Ilagan and Paolo Nebrida this year, though. Latvians Madars Razma and Valters Melderis complete this pool.
Australia have perhaps the toughest group as they compete with last year's finalists Austria. The former flanked by Simon Whitlock and Damon Heta once more.
New final victory
In Wales, through Jonny Clayton, they are already firm believers in another final victory. "Gerwyn (Price) is in some great form. I was convinced he'd take the Premier League," he said to Love the Darts.
"I hope Gezzy plays (in the World Cup). He can still be captain even though I'm the number one. I ain't going to change anything, we play well. He's a great frontrunner and I play well behind him so hopefully we can challenge the English."
