Dimitri Van den Bergh, Luke Humphries, and Nathan Aspinall have withdrawn from the German Darts Grand Prix, the Euro Tour event taking place in Munich over the Easter weekend.
Van den Bergh’s withdrawal had been anticipated. "The Dreammaker" had already pulled out at the last minute from the Players Championship events in Rosmalen earlier this week. Initially, the PDC cited illness as the reason, but it later emerged that there was more to the story.
Former professional player Vincent van der Voort revealed on the Darts Draait Door podcast that Van den Bergh is currently taking a break from darts altogether. The Belgian has decided to focus on his health and step away from the sport for a while.
Aspinall, meanwhile, has been struggling with a shoulder injury in recent weeks and has chosen to sit out the tournament as well. As for Humphries, no official reason has been given, but "Cool Hand Luke" recently hinted that he’s feeling burnt out due to the demanding darts schedule.
As a result of the three withdrawals, Madars Razma, Kim Huybrechts, and Mensur Suljovic have been called up as replacements. Originally set to start in the first round, Michael Smith, Ryan Searle, and Joe Cullen have now been promoted to the top-16 seeds, giving them a bye in the opening round.
