Dave Chisnall enjoyed a stellar 2024, claiming two Players Championship titles and two European Tour crowns. However, in 2025, Chizzy is still chasing his first ranking title of the year and has now slipped out of the world’s top ten.
Still, Chisnall remains positive. "I’ve dropped down to 12th in the Order of Merit, but it’s nothing to worry about as I was carrying a lot of money from this time last year," begins the multiple time major finalist in his latest column for Kwiff.
Last weekend, Chisnall went down 6-3 against Ryan Joyce in the third round of the Austrian Darts Open. "It’s been pretty tame from me and pretty poor in terms of doing the basics. I beat Ian White on Saturday, but gave myself too much to do when losing to Ryan Joyce on Sunday," he recalls. "The first leg should have been mine, it was missing the big number, which is criminal at this standard and you get punished at this level. You can tell I was a bit frustrated and the temperature there didn’t help either. The room was absolutely roasting, with one of the commentators saying he didn’t know what was hotter, my doubles or the room. Was most definitely the room! I battled well from 5-0 down, but the damage had already been done."
"Another thing my manager Roger has noticed is that when it’s warm, I lose a bit of concentration – I’m spending too much mopping my brow! I suppose it’s one of those things where you just have to find a way of getting used to," he continues. "I know some of the bigger lads used to struggle when they first played under the big bright lights of TV tournaments – mentioning no names, but you can work it out!"
Nevertheless, Chisnall is as already mentioned, remaining positive. "I’m looking forward to another trip to Germany this weekend for more Euro Tour action," he explains. "I think there’s two trips to Germany and two trips to Holland in the month of May, so fingers crossed we can come back with a few Euros. Whilst down to 12 in the Order of Merit, there’s now good opportunities to claw a bit back."
It's on the TV where Chizzy is really looking to make his mark after a comparatively quiet couple of years for him on the big stages. "I did awfully in most of the big TV tournaments the last couple of years, getting to the Quarter-Finals of the 2024 Worlds notwithstanding, so a good run at The World Matchplay, The World Grand Prix of The Grand Slam could make a big difference," he concludes. "If I can go into some of the bigger tournaments with a trophy or two trousered, it would make life a good deal easier. Fingers crossed!"
In and out the last few weeks, but hopefully getting there. My latest 'Darting Diary' with @KwiffOfficial is now here https://t.co/JaJFdRoQ4o
