The PDC CEO, Matt Porter has been speaking to Online Darts about the players opinions on the first round losers money but why he stands with his decisions and won't change it going forward.
"If everyone was always happy, maybe it would be too easy for us". This was Porter's reply when asked if he takes the players opinions into consideration. He always wants the players to feel happy whilst playing but wants to put things into place to allow the players doing well to get "what they deserve".
The CEO also went into detail about how many competitions there are going forward and the amount of money that is up for grabs. "If we did 10 tournaments a year I would get it because these players need to earn a living, but we are giving them 34 Players Championship events, 14 European tours a World Championship, a grand slam, the World Series finals, the World Masters, plus 4 other tournaments. Even if you hit bad form there are so much money up for grabs". Porter here was expressing the PDC's opinion around why they have lowered the first round exit pay check but explaining that even if you hit bad form you can still make a living based on how many tournaments you can enter a year.
Porter also expressed that he wants players to "earn their prize money". They have increased the pay check if you finish higher in the tournaments and he believes this is an incentive to play better and respect the players on form.
Matt Porter understands why the players may feel a bit more pressure due to lower money now if you don't do well, as these players "need to earn a living", but stands by what he has done to allow the players to have an incentive to do better.
