Mario Vandenbogaerde, Kim Huybrechts, Xanti van den Bergh and Francois Schweyen secured a starting spot for the Flanders Darts Trophy 2025 through the Host Nation Qualifier on Thursday. They will join compatriot Mike de Decker this weekend at the Euro Tour tournament in Antwerp.
It was a strong qualifying tournament. The Belgian Tour Card holders, with the exception of Stefaan Henderyck and the already seeded De Decker, preferred participation in this Host Nation Qualifier to the previously played Tour Card Qualifier.
Huybrechts secured participation in his home tournament by dealing with Kevin Van Hove - Speltincx (6-0), Steve de Buck (6-5), Axel Buyle (6-2), Robbie Knops (6-3) and Sybren Gijbels (6-2) during the qualifying tournament. An important qualification for Huybrechts, with a view to qualifying for the World Darts Championship and retaining his Tour Card. He also meets Lukas Wenig in the first round and thus has a good chance to gain some extra pounds. After that, James Wade possibly awaits in the second round.
Vandenbogaerde was the second Tour Card holder to secure a starting spot for the Flanders Darts Trophy. 'Super Mario' was too strong during the qualifier against Kenny Beke (6-0), Brian Raman (6-4), Mathias Schockaert (6-3) and Kris Mievis (6-3). A duel with former world champion Michael Smith is scheduled for Vandenbogaerde. The winner of that match will play against Jonny Clayton in the second round.
Dimitri van den Bergh was the biggest name not to make the main tournament, but his little brother Xanti van den Bergh did provide surprising qualifying success. Van den Bergh won 6-4 over Andy Baetens in the final round, having also previously defeated Milan Vanuytrecht (6-3), Brian Verhelst (6-2), Kenji Dupont (6-1) and Cedric Waegemans (6-3). It earns him a meeting with darts icon Raymond van Barneveld.
The final spot went to Schweyen. The Belgian walked away with the starting ticket after victories over Roger Janssen (6-4), John Desreumaux (6-3), Laurens Snoek (6-0), Lucas Adams (6-3) and Michael De Meyer (6-1). Dylan Slevin will be Schweyen's first opponent and if he wins, he will play against Luke Littler in the last 32.
