Luke Humphries backs childhood hero Adrian Lewis: 'Still a few more major titles left in him'

Current world number one Luke Humphries has revealed that his dream opponent in a major televised final would be none other than Adrian Lewis. The 30-year-old Englishman has enjoyed a meteoric rise over the past 18 months, capturing no fewer than seven major titles along the way. In that time, he's taken down some of the biggest names in darts, including Michael van Gerwen and rising star Luke Littler.

Yet it's not one of those modern-day superstars who tops his wishlist. Speaking to the Weekly Dartscast, Humphries said: “The only one I would have really loved to share the stage with in a big final is Adrian Lewis. He has always been my favourite player and I’ve always loved him. He is someone that I get along with really well.”

Lewis – nicknamed "Jackpot" – announced in April 2023 that he was stepping away from the professional circuit. However, the Stoke-on-Trent thrower has since made a return through the Modus Super Series and has also competed in various exhibition events this year.

Humphries is convinced his boyhood hero isn’t done yet: “For me I still think there is a possibility that it could happen one day because I’ve been doing exhibitions with him and he’s just still playing so lovely. He is just enjoying darts at the moment and nobody is going to pressure him to come back but he still throws a dart so well."

“I do think there is still a lot of unfinished business for him in darts whether he comes back or he don’t who knows," Humphries continues. “But I think he will one day, and I think there is still a few more major titles left in him. So, I would love to share the final stage with him.”

Humphries also named another legend he’d love to face in a major final: "Or of course Gary Anderson. They would be the two left that I would love to have a major final with in the Worlds or something like that. It would be really special," 'Cool Hand Luke' concludes.
