Michael van Gerwen, Luke Humphries and Rob Cross have withdrawn from the field of participants for the European Darts Open. They follow the likes of Luke Littler and Gerwyn Price, who had already failed to register, leaving as many as five of the eight Premier League Darts stars missing this weekend in Leverkusen.
Cross had opted out before the Tour Card qualifying tournament was played, moving all the seeds up one spot and giving Madars Razma an invitation as a Pro Tour Qualifier.
Luke Humphries and Michael van Gerwen withdrew only recently. Humphries' cancellation likely has to do with the fact that he will make his appearance this Thursday during the Premier League Darts playoffs. Van Gerwen recently announced he will not play tournaments for the time being because he is in a divorce with his now ex-partner Daphne Govers.
The places of Humphries and Van Gerwen will be filled by the first two players on the reserve list. William O'Connor and Matt Campbell were the highest-ranked losers in the final round of the Tour Card-qualifying tournament and can now play in Leverkusen.
