Luke Humphries not looking revenge over Luke Littler in Premier League Darts final: 'I've got to get past Nathan Aspinall first'

Over the last few years, Luke Humphries has claimed a host of major titles, including the PDC World Darts Championship and the World Matchplay. The Premier League Darts title is one of the few that has eluded the world number one, but this Thursday night, Humphries returns to the O2 Arena looking to change that fact.

Humphries began his Premier League campaign in commanding fashion, capturing two nightly titles within the opening four weeks and reaching another final in Glasgow. But his early momentum stalled mid-season, as a three-match losing streak allowed Luke Littler to overtake him at the top of the table, with Humphries settling into 2nd place, where he would ultimately finish the season.

Over the final nine weeks of the league phase, the world number one reached five additional nightly finals, though he managed to convert just one into a win — a sign of consistency tempered by missed opportunities.

In the semi-finals of the playoffs, Nathan Aspinall now lies in wait for 'Cool Hand Luke'. Although much of the talk is about a potential battle between the two Lukes in the final, Humphries isn't looking any further than Aspinall. "I've got to get past Nathan first, and if I do get past Nathan, I might not be playing Luke, I might be playing Gerwyn Price," Humphries tells Sky Sports. "You can't predict anything in darts. You've got four great darts players in the semi-finals. Any one of us can win. All four of us can win that trophy."

"I think it is a mistake if you think that you're going to be playing someone in the final before they actually win the game first itself," adds the world number one. "So yeah, I'm not going to count my chickens yet before I've actually been made the final."

As mentioned, the Premier League title is one of the few that Humphries is yet to claim. Given that he's only 30 years old though, 'Cool Hand Luke' is keen to stress that time is on his side, even if he falls short again this year.

"If I can go and win it, then I'd be super happy. But I'm starting to get to that point now in my career where I'm not putting that pressure on my shoulders anymore," he explains. "I'm just here to enjoy myself and try and win as many major tournaments as I can. I just love being involved. That's what I like. Being here and being a part of a special occasion like this is just what I live for, so I'm just happy that I'm here."
