Luke Littler has called on Manchester United to make work this summer on the arrival of Douglas Luiz, a former Aston Villa and Manchester City midfielder currently under contract to Juventus. Littler is known as a fierce supporter of Manchester United.
United manager Ruben Amorim has already invested heavily in the selection. Spending some 130 million pounds in this transfer period, he is trying to rectify last season's dramatic 15th place finish. Among the newcomers are striker Bryan Mbeumo (Brentford), striker Matheus Cunha (Wolves) and talented left back Diego Leon. Still, that's not enough for Littler.
In an interview with talkSPORT Darts, the 18-year-old world champion made a striking suggestion: Douglas Luiz should come to strengthen United's midfield. "I’d go straight in for Douglas Luiz at Juve. They’re letting him go. He can hold. He can play further up. No-brainer," he said straight away.
Luiz made the switch from Aston Villa to Juventus last summer, but made only 27 appearances in all competitions there. Despite a contract until 2029, a return to the Premier League does not seem out of the question.
The Brazilian was a regular at Villa between 2019 and 2024, where he notched 20 goals and 18 assists in 175 league games. Previously, he was on the Manchester City payroll, but never saw action there. But has interest from others despite the fact that he has many years remaining on his current deal.
Littler, who continued his mighty year Sunday with a win at the World Matchplay in Blackpool (18-13 against James Wade), now has the Triple Crown to his name. After the Premier League and World Championship, this is his third major title of 2025.
Next weekend, 'The Nuke' will travel to Australia for the Australian Darts Masters in Wollongong, where he will be part of a select group of top PDC players.
