Luke Littler sends support to Mason Mount amid Manchester United struggles

Darts sensation Luke Littler, a well-known Manchester United fan, has offered words of encouragement to midfielder Mason Mount as the player continues to struggle to make an impact at Old Trafford. Mount joined United from Chelsea in 2023 for a hefty £55 million fee but has endured a frustrating spell since his arrival.

Injuries have sidelined the England international for much of his time at the club, limiting him to just 41 appearances and only two goals. One of those goals came recently in a thrilling but ultimately disappointing 4–3 defeat to Brentford — United’s 16th league loss of the season.

Littler, who rarely reaches out to players from his favourite club, revealed in an interview with SportsBoom.co.uk that he had sent Mount a message on Instagram:

“I don't really speak to them [players]. Although I don't think anyone knows this, I recently messaged Mason Mount on Instagram just to say it was good to see him back in training again. We bought him and thought he'd be great, but he's had a few injuries. I'd love to see him get into the starting team and score goals."

The teenage darts star has also interacted with United defender Harry Maguire in the past. After Maguire scored a winning goal against Lyon, Littler joked on Instagram: “Can you wear the number 9 shirt?” Maguire replied with laughing emojis.

Manchester United face Athletic Bilbao on Thursday night in the second leg of the Europa League semi-finals. Having won the first leg 3–0, qualification for the final appears to be a formality.

Despite his deep love for the club, Littler is unlikely to attend a potential final in Bilbao. “I have been looking at flights - but I'll go only if I’m allowed," Littler admitted. "Even if I don’t go, I’ll obviously watch it. I don’t think a PJ [private jet] is worth it."
