'Maybe tomorrow I'll keep the security on their guard': Damon Heta nearly got carried away with MSG walk-on

Damon Heta was over the moon as he punished nine missed darts at doubles from Jim Long to seal a 6-1 win over the Canadian averaging around 99 on his debut at the US Darts Masters.

Heta was making his debut outside of Australia having long been a stalwart of the Oceanic events but was given the call and he relished every single minute of it on Friday night.

Including nearly getting carried away with his walk-on which he quipped he may change in the Quarter-Finals to give the security the run around.

"I had some fun up there. It was insane. You just wanted to hit 180's as the crowd they wanted it. I denied them a few times. I get boo'd a few times but when I hit one, let it rain let it pour. I really enjoyed myself up there and that's what I wanted to come and do," said Heta to Online Darts.

"Looking forward to tomorrow now I cannot wait. I got confused as it wasn't your normal walk-on as you had to go from the side and walk-in and there's no barricades. We're not just sitting there signing, we're just in the mix. There was a moment where I thought I might just go into the crowd and do something silly."

"But then I thought there might be a fine. So I thought I might keep it simple. Maybe tomorrow I'll keep the security on their guard."

He also discussed the added pressure that the Australian legs give and he is able to have fun and relax not having the eyes of the darting world in that country on him during those events.

"Maybe it's the added pressure that gives you the feeling of going you don't want to mess up. But here was just fun. Something just come over me that was just fun. I thought maybe I should be more focused here but the darts were flowing so if I'm having fun and they're flowing why not just keep the good times rolling."

"Why not win the title, if I win it surely I come back next year."

He said that he is also enjoying all the sights of New York with his wife Meaghan. Unlike others who have become regulars, he is using this chance to explore a part of the world he hasn't previously.

"You've got to earn your spot and your ways and your time. If one or two dropped out and that's how you earned your spot that's fair dues. Even if I didn't get it, that's fair play to the people that are here. When you get to the top echelons, you're not there on luck you're there as you put in the hard times and did what you need to get there. I'm not taking it for granted."

"I came early to look around. What's the point of coming this side of the world and not seeing the world. I've got my wife with me all of the time so it's silly for me not to see the world and see it for what it is. I'm really privileged to be here."
