The eleventh season of the MODUS Super Series reaches its climax this week, as the twelve weekly winners gather in Portsmouth for Champions Week and the chance to claim the £25,000 top prize.
The season began earlier this year, when former Lakeside finalist Jeff Smith took the first weekly crown. Scott Taylor followed in Week Two, before John O’Shea and reigning WDF world champion Shane McGuirk added their names to the roll of honour. In Week Five, 2012 PDC World Darts Championship finalist Andy Hamilton rolled back the years with a vintage display, while Week Six went to the talented Czech youngster Adam Gawlas.
Dutchman Jimmy van Schie made it a proud week for the Netherlands in Week Seven, before Graham Usher then sealed his spot in Week Eight. Derek Coulson came out on top in Week Nine, before a surprise victory for the relatively unknown Richard McKee in Week Ten. The final two qualifying weeks were dominated by the Dutch, with Jurjen van der Velde and Danny van Trijp completing the line-up.
The twelve players are split across three groups. Group A gets the action underway on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 9:30am, featuring McGuirk, Coulson, Van Schie, Van der Velde, Taylor and Usher. Only the group winner secures a direct place in Saturday’s finals night.
On Thursday and Friday it’s over to Group B (10:00pm) and Group C (2:00pm). The top three from Group B and the top two from Group C join the Group A winner in the finale.
Finals night starts at 7:30pm on Saturday with two mini-leagues of three, followed by semi-finals and the grand final to decide the season’s champion.
Smith, O’Shea, Gawlas, McKee, Van Trijp and Hamilton enter later in the week, each looking to finish their season in style.
