Nathan Aspinall enjoyed an impressive weekend at the US Darts Masters in New York, reaching the final and setting a new record along the way.
The Stockport native was one of the PDC’s top stars competing in the latest World Series of Darts event, and he made a strong statement from the start. Aspinall opened his campaign with a commanding 6–2 victory over Canada’s Matt Campbell, averaging a blistering 104.68 — the highest first-round average of the entire tournament.
But it wasn’t just the average that turned heads. Aspinall also fired in eight 180s during that match — a new record for the first round of a World Series event, according to Darts Orakel. Remarkably, he achieved the feat in just eight legs out of a possible 11.
Building on that momentum, Aspinall went on to produce a major upset in the quarter-finals, defeating teenage sensation Luke Littler 6–4 despite Littler averaging an outstanding 108.89. In the semi-finals, Aspinall dispatched Damon Heta 7–3 to book his place in the final.
There, he narrowly missed out on the title, falling 8–6 to Luke Humphries in a high-quality contest.
Still, the run to the final marks a significant confidence boost for Aspinall ahead of the World Matchplay, where he will be defending the £200,000 in prize money he earned by lifting the trophy in 2023. With his recent form, “The Asp” looks more than ready for the challenge in Blackpool.
