Glen Durrant became a three-time world champion in his career with the BDO. After his move to the PDC, he also won the Premier League Darts in 2020. 'Duzza' had a Tour Card between 2019 and 2022, but is currently active as an analyst and commentator with Sky Sports.
So Durrant still follows the sport closely and, in that view, is very well placed to shine his light on Michael van Gerwen. "I think someone said he doesn't have the fear factor no more," said Durrant to Online Darts.
"He's the only player I can honestly say that I had fear when I played him. I can't think when I stood against Gezzy Price at his best in 2019 and 2020 and the best players around there. When I played Michael, it was that fear factor."

Nervous
"I was scared. I was really nervous to play him. He was the benchmark of what you want to be. He's not that player now. Wouldn't it be fitting for him to have a real conclusion now of finding something from somewhere."
Van Gerwen's last major win dates back to 2023, when he managed to win the Premier League Darts (that year he also won the World Series of Darts Finals). He is currently third in the world rankings, behind the unapproachable duo of Luke Littler and Luke Humphries.
Technology
But also his throw has changed marginally which has been a hot topic and Durrant admires his longevity but as his throw continues to break down ever so slightly, he isn't sure he'll ever get back to the all conquering MVG of the past.
"There's a lot of body going into his throw, that flick of the wrist that he's doing these days. Compared to that lovely silky swing of a throw that he once had. I admire his longevity. I lasted a couple of years. He's still a big cheese but he get back to World No.1, I don't know."
