PDC Order of Merit update: Chris Dobey up to career high ranking as Aspinall, Cross & Van Barneveld slide

Chris Dobey has climbed to a career-high sixth place in the PDC Order of Merit following the latest rankings update — a timely rise for the in-form Englishman ahead of the World Matchplay in Blackpool.

Dobey’s consistent form over the past 12 months has seen him edge ahead of Nathan Aspinall, who slips to seventh and now faces a critical title defence. ‘The Asp’ is under pressure to protect £200,000 in prize money from last year’s runner-up finish at the Winter Gardens — and failure to do so could see him drop out of the world’s top 20 altogether. For now, though, he will still head to Blackpool as a top-10 seed.

Also on the move inside the top 10 is Damon Heta, who now occupies ninth spot after leapfrogging Rob Cross.

Further down the rankings, Cameron Menzies continues his surge up the Order of Merit. The 35-year-old Scotsman has overtaken Raymond van Barneveld and now sits 35th in the world — just £21,250 away from breaking into the top 32 for the first time.

Menzies has enjoyed an excellent year on the Pro Tour, reaching five Players Championship finals and winning two of them. He also made the quarter-finals at the 2023 Grand Slam of Darts and has twice reached the last eight on the European Tour this season. Next month, he’ll make his debut at the World Matchplay — another major opportunity to add to his rising total.

As a result of Menzies’ progress, Van Barneveld has slipped one place to 36th in the world rankings. Meanwhile, Dutch compatriot Dirk van Duijvenbode has dropped two spots to 32nd. On the rise, however, are Jermaine Wattimena and Luke Woodhouse, who each climb one place as the Pro Tour season heats up.
