This Saturday night there are a lot of great matches on the menu during the second day of the European Darts Grand Prix in Sindelfingen with Michael van Gerwen, Gerwyn Price, Luke Humphries among others in action.

This is the 11th time the European Darts Grand Prix has been played. The very first edition of this event was in 2014, and was won by Mervyn King. Remarkably, in ten editions there have been as many as nine different winners. Michael van Gerwen (2016 and 2018) is the only player to win this tournament more than once. Other winners include Kim Huybrechts (2015), Peter Wright (2017), Ian White (2019), Jose de Sousa (2020), Luke Humphries (2022), Rob Cross (2023) and Gary Anderson (2024).

After seeming to rediscover some form as of late Michael van Gerwen faces Dirk van Duijvenbode. For Van Gerwen, it will be his first match this tournament, while Van Duijvenbode saw off William O'Connor in the opening round.

Gerwyn Price also will be involved and returns to action facing off against Raymond van Barneveld. Both men met earlier this year at the Euro Tour tournament in Munich. Back then, Price won 6-3.

The session starts with James Wade facing Joe Cullen. Wade reached the semifinals at the Belgian Darts Open, but lost his first game each of the three subsequent Euro Tours. Cullen can reach the final day for the third tournament in a row.

Next, Jonny Clayton and Andrew Gilding take the stage for the second match of the evening. Gilding won handsomely 6-5 over Gabriel Clemens on Friday, meeting the man who won another Players Championship tournament last month. On the Euro Tour, however, Clayton is performing significantly less, with one quarterfinal and four second-round finishes.

Peter Wright faces Leon Weber, who managed to cause a shock on Friday by eliminating outside Ryan Joyce. Wright has been performing quite solidly in recent weeks, including a quarterfinal at two Euro Tours, and even a final on the floor. A lack of consistency prevents "Snakebite" from really competing for prizes again, but at least his form is on the rise.

Luke Humphries is competing again after two missed Euro Tours. A semifinal at the International Darts Open is his best result so far. The world number one will battle Connor Scutt for a spot in the last sixteen. For Scutt, the tournament is already in full swing. He won in the first round from Ritchie Edhouse, finally getting his first win on the Euro Tour.

Another interesting event is the showdown between Josh Rock and Martin Schindler. The two men faced each other in the semifinals last week at the Austrian Darts Open. Then Rock missed seven matchdarts to reach the final. Then Schindler did strike, winning a Euro Tour tournament in Austria for the third time in his career.

The final match of the evening is between Stephen Bunting and Cameron Menzies. 'The Bullet' managed to win the International Darts Open earlier this season, while Cameron Menzies has also been able to celebrate success. He already took a Players Championship title, while Menzies also lost two floor finals.

TV Guide

The tournament will be broadcast by PDC TV. As usual with Euro Tour tournaments, the European Darts Grand Prix consists of three tournament days. The afternoon sessions start daily at 12 p.m., while the evening sessions start at 6 p.m.

The first round will take place on Friday. The 16 Pro Tour players are then paired with one of the 16 players who managed to get through the various qualifying tournaments. The top-16 seeded players enter the tournament on Saturday in the second round. The denouement of the tournament follows on Sunday, with the third round first in the afternoon session. Sunday night the quarterfinals, semifinals and finals will follow.

Distribution of prize money

All participants starting from the first round are guaranteed £1250 in prize money, while the top-16 enter from the second round and receive £2,500 anyway. This amount eventually rises to the grand prize of £30,000 for the winner.

An important detail is that players who are automatically seeded via the Order of Merit and lose their first match will not be awarded prize money on the various rankings. This does apply to qualifiers who are later designated as seeded by the withdrawal of others.
