Scott Williams has revealed in an interview how he made newest darts prodigy Jayden Walker feel right away how tough the senior circuit can be. The 12-year-old top talent, already dubbed the "next Luke Littler" by many, suffered an immediate and hefty defeat against "Shaggy" in his very first county match.
Walker impressed last year with performances at a young age. In December, for example, he surprisingly won a doubles tournament in the MODUS Super Series along with content creator Angry Ginge. In the finals, they defeated none other than Fallon Sherrock and YouTuber JaackMaate. A day earlier, Walker had even defeated world champion Luke Humphries 2-1 in a demo match.
But against Williams, who came out for Dorset, the young Walker could not make a fist. On the radio program Drive with talkSPORT, Williams spoke candidly about their encounter.
"There’s a couple of really good young lads. You can see there’s Jayden Walker. He’s from the Portsmouth area. I play at Dorset, I was his first-ever county game. He played in the B. He was 12-years-old or 11-years-old
And how did that end? "To be fair, I smashed him. That’s what you’ve got to do, but he’s really good.
Williams pointed out that Luke Littler's success has created a wave of young talent. "Jack Johnson as well, another lad. They’re scattered about, but ever since Luke has done what he’s done, there’s youth academies everywhere. All of a sudden, these young dart players are just sneaking out everywhere."
Williams knows better than anyone how special Littler is. The two were on stage together back in 2022 at the WDF Europe Cup in Spain, where they competed for England. "It was always big for me over the last couple of years and then Luke came in," he added.
"Which is no surprise because I’ve known Luke for a few years. We played together for England a couple of years ago. He was 14. He was special. He’s always been special, even around his area. So us as players, we’ve known about him for three, four, five years."
And he did. Littler, now only 18, is already the world number two and has 13 PDC titles to his name, five of them majors. His rise began at the 2024 World Championship, where he lost the final to Humphries. A year later, he revenged and crowned himself the youngest ever world champion.
