Swiss Darts Trophy 2025: Field, Schedule, Draw and Predictions

Josh Rock is perhaps his closest challenger right now to Luke Littler. 'Rocky' is in great form and it's only a matter of time before he finally wins a Euro Tour tournament.

Just below them, in my opinion, are players such as Gerwyn Price and Luke Humphries. Price is having a very strong year and, as far as I'm concerned, is currently not far behind Littler and Rock. Humphries on the other hand has had a few more bumps in the road this year. But with his exceptional talent he could easily win a tournament, as he showed at the Czech Darts Open.

Michael van Gerwen showed at the World Series of Darts that he still has what it takes to win tournaments, but the question is whether he can show this consistently. James Wade is also having a good year and could go far again this weekend. As far as I'm concerned, we're still waiting for Gian van Veen to finally reward his talent and good play with a big title. Who knows, he might just do it this weekend in Basel.

Luke Littler will not be participating in Basel this weekend, opening the door for other players to step up. One player who could take advantage of this is Josh Rock, who is currently enjoying an excellent run of form. It all began with his victory at the World Cup of Darts, followed by a semifinal appearance at the World Matchplay, two Euro Tour finals, and just last weekend, another semifinal at the Hungarian Darts Trophy. Of all the top players, he has proven to be the most consistent in his performances, behind Littler.

At the Swiss Darts Trophy, Rock will face competition from the likes of Luke Humphries and Michael van Gerwen, two players who have already claimed titles this September. In addition, James Wade, Jonny Clayton, and Nathan Aspinall have all shown this year that they can be dangerous outsiders.

A point echoed by Nicolas Gayer, Editor for DartsNews.DE. The European Tour is heading into its home stretch, and one man who has shaped this season like few others still finds himself without a title: Josh Rock.

Like clockwork, the Northern Irishman once again reached the semifinals last weekend in Hungary, only to be stopped by an inspired Niko Springer. This time, however, I believe Rock will take advantage of Luke Littler’s absence to finally seize the spotlight. I expect him to lift his long-awaited first European Tour trophy of the season into the Basel sky.

I am also convinced that Gian van Veen will bounce back after a disappointing weekend and return to winning ways. Meanwhile, Martin Schindler returns to Switzerland as defending champion, and as always, he remains a strong candidate for a place in the final session.
