This past weekend, the Finnish town of Vääksy played host to a double-header on the PDC Nordic & Baltic Tour — the regional circuit for players from Northern Europe and the Baltic states. The honours were shared between Finland’s Teemu Harju and Lithuania’s Darius Labanauskas, who each claimed a tournament victory.
Saturday marked the seventh stop of the 2025 season, with 44 players stepping up to the oche. Among the field were tour card holders Cor Dekker and Oskar Lukasiak, with Dekker making a particularly strong impression early on. He posted a convincing 6-2 win over Labanauskas but was stopped in the last 16 by Daniel Larsson, who returned the favour with a 6-2 victory of his own.
Larsson looked in fine form throughout the day. Despite surviving a nervy quarterfinal against Andreas Harrysson — where he missed nine match darts — he battled through to reach the final. There, he faced an inspired Teemu Harju, who had already dispatched Kim Viljanen 6-1 and edged Johan Engström 6-4 in a high-quality contest where Engström averaged over 100.
Harju was clinical in the final. A quick break of throw and a tidy 17-darter helped him race to a 3-1 lead. Larsson responded with a smooth 80 checkout, but missed two darts at tops in the seventh leg — a mistake Harju punished immediately with a 14-darter. The Finn sealed his maiden title in style, taking out 120 to complete a 6-2 win and secure his first ever triumph on the Nordic & Baltic Tour.
Sunday’s eighth tour event featured a slightly smaller field of 38 players. Notable names such as Larsson and Marko Kantele suffered early exits, while Dekker once again reached the quarterfinals. Harju, however, was unable to replicate his Saturday heroics and was whitewashed 6-0 by Engström in a surprisingly one-sided affair.
The day ultimately belonged to Darius Labanauskas. In the quarterfinals, the Lithuanian staged a dramatic comeback from 5-2 down against Lukasiak, clawing his way back to win 6-5. He then capitalised on missed doubles from Engström in the semifinals, producing a steady display to book his spot in the final.
On the other side of the draw, Harrysson reached his fourth final of the season by defeating Dekker 6-4. But it was Labanauskas who set the tone in the decider, claiming the first three legs as Harrysson narrowly missed crucial doubles. From there, Labanauskas kept control and never looked back. At 5-3, he pinned double 8 to close out the match and clinch his first title of the 2025 season.
