These players top the list for most withdrawals from European Tour as Gary Anderson leads the way
Kelly Deckers/PDC

Gary Anderson secured back-to-back victories at the European Darts Grand Prix, dominating Andrew Gilding with a resounding 8-0 win in Sunday’s final in Sindelfingen. ‘The Flying Scotsman’ was in imperious form as he claimed his second straight title at the Glaspalast.

However, history suggests this triumph might spell bad news for fans hoping to see more of Anderson on the European mainland. As was the case last year, it remains to be seen whether the two-time world champion will make further appearances on the Euro Tour this season.

The Euro Tour serves as the primary route for qualifying for the European Championship. In 2024, Anderson used his victory in Sindelfingen to secure his place at the year-end major—before promptly skipping the remaining nine Euro Tour events. Notably, he didn’t even register for any of those tournaments.

That pattern may well repeat. Anderson has developed a reputation for pulling out of Euro Tour events—even ones he initially entered. According to stats provider FEBsDATA, the Scot has withdrawn from nine Euro Tour tournaments since the start of 2023. Between 2017 and 2022, he didn’t play a single Euro Tour event. Since returning in early 2023, Anderson has now made just seven appearances—three of them this season.

He’s not the only high-profile name with a patchy Euro Tour record. Nathan Aspinall and Gerwyn Price have each withdrawn from six events in the same period after being announced in the field. Ryan Joyce, known for his fear of flying, has also cancelled five times—but encouragingly, ‘Relentless’ has featured in five of the six Euro Tour events so far this year.

Other frequent absentees in recent years include Luke Humphries (4 cancellations), Luke Littler (3), Michael van Gerwen (3), Michael Smith (3), and Dimitri Van den Bergh (3).
