Watch: Danny van Trijp throws nine darter and wins MODUS Super Series final with 120 average

Danny van Trijp secured the final starting spot for Champions Week of the MODUS Super Series on Saturday after a truly brilliant final. The Dutchman managed to win the twelfth week of play in Portsmouth in style.

The six best players from the past week met Saturday in the finals. The finalists were divided into two pools of three players each. Raymond Smith, Dean Finn and Danny van Trijp were in one group, and Cameron Carolissen, Gemma Hayter and David Davies ended up in the other.

In Group A, all three players managed to win once. Raymond Smith won 4-1 from Dean Finn, while Finn had to swallow a 2-4 defeat against Van Trijp. The latter, however, lost 4-2 to Smith. Because the Australian had suffered the largest defeat, however, he dropped out.

Cameron Carolissen remained unbeaten in Group B. The South African first won 4-1 over Gemma Hayter, before also overcoming David Davies 4-2. In between, Davies had won 4-2 from Hayter.

In the first semifinal, Finn was too strong for Davies, 4-3. After that, Van Trijp also forced a spot in the final by winning 4-2 over Carolissen, making Finn and Van Trijp face each other for the second time on the night.

It became a memorable final especially for Van Trijp. The Dutchman won the first two legs with a 12-darter and a 13-darter, but then proved to be able to move up another level.

Van Trijp started the third leg with two 180 scores, and then managed to throw a 141 finish for a nine darter. With this, Van Trijp also provided the first perfect leg on the final day of a MODUS Super Series week. Van Trijp then clinched the title with a 16-darter. His average ended up at a fantastic 120.24.

Next week, Van Trijp will get to compete in the Champions Week of the MODUS Super Series. Shane McGuirk, Derek Coulson, Jimmy van Schie, Jurjen van der Velde, Scott Taylor, Graham Usher, Andy Hamilton, Scott Gawlas, John O'Shea, Jeff Smith and Richard McKee are the other darters who may make their appearance during Champions Week.
