Wales can look forward to special support this weekend in the hunt for a third title at the World Cup of Darts. Successful duo Gerwyn Price and Jonny Clayton previously topped the country tournament in Frankfurt in 2020 and 2023.

As one of four seeded nations, the top two players are automatically qualified for the second round, which will be played on Saturday. Ahead of the tournament, they received encouragement from Senedd Cymru, the Welsh parliament.

At the Darts on Your Doorstep event in Aberfan this week, Jonny Clayton met with Jack Sargeant, Minister for Culture, Skills and Social Partnerships, among others. He spoke proudly of his countrymen's opportunities. "The game of darts is strong in Cymru and we wish them all the best. We'll be looking out for Jonny and Gerwyn. I think they've got a great chance - who better to represent Wales!"

James Evans, MP for Brecon & Radnorshire, also expressed enthusiasm. "I will be screaming for Jonny and Gezzy - hopefully they do us really proud," Evans added. "It's going to be a really good competition, because the standard across the PDC now is absolutely phenomenal. The English pair are going to take some toppling but I think Jonny and Gezzy are going to show them!"

The competition, however, is stiff. England in particular, with world champion Luke Littler and current world number one Luke Humphries, is considered the top favourite. Other contenders are Scotland (Gary Anderson and Peter Wright), the Netherlands (Danny Noppert and Gian van Veen) and Belgium (Dimitri van den Bergh and Mike de Decker).
