20 celebrity parents who welcomed their children via surrogacy

When he's not hosting Watch What Happens Live, Andy Cohen is living his best life as a dad. The Real Housewives host is the father of two children, Ben and Lucy, both of whom were born via surrogacy. In 2018, Andy announced the news surrounded by iconic Housewives, saying, “Thanks to a wonderful surrogate who is carrying my future."

Kandi Burruss has four children, and if you've watched the Real Housewives of Atlanta, you've seen them on TV in the past. During an earlier season of the series, Kandi opened up about her fourth child, Blaze, being born via surrogate. 

"It was a blessing we [were] able to get [our son] Ace through IVF, but in the process of doing IVF, we still have two more embryos," Kandi said. "And with that being said, as soon as we had Ace, we knew that we would want to possibly use our other embryos, but I had a high-risk pregnancy last time, so that's why we decided we would consider surrogacy."

Kim Kardashian has always been open about having her two youngest children via surrogacy. In fact, she advocated for it with her sister, Khloé, during an episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians. "You know what giving birth feels like," Kim said. "I always say if you can do it, it’s such an amazing experience, but you’ll see that the love you’ll have for your kids is exactly the same. There’s no difference except there was someone else that was the carrier.”

Khloé Kardashian has two kids with NBA player Tristan Thompson. She welcomed her second child via surrogacy; however, it wasn't exactly smooth sailing due to her public relationship issues with Tristan. The Kardashians star admitted to feeling less connected with her youngest child. 

"Compare it to True and him; it’s a different experience," she said, speaking about her relationship with her daughter and son. "The connection ... took days with True. With him, it's taking months, and we still don’t have a complete bond."

Kelsey Grammer and his ex-wife, Camille, announced they had their two children via surrogate. In a 2012 blog Camille wrote during her time on Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, the reality star said she wished she could've experienced pregnancy but was "grateful I had a wonderful surrogate who carried our two children."

Paris Hilton welcomed a baby boy in 2023 and told People that he'd been born by a surrogate. "It's always been my dream to be a mother," she said.

Jesse Tyler Ferguson, best known for his time on Modern Family, welcomed his second child via surrogate in 2022. On Instagram, Jesse wrote that he'd be taking some time away from his role in the Broadway show Take Me Out to spend time with his newborn. 

The former Cheetah Girls and The Real star Adrienne Bailon welcomed a newborn via surrogate with her partner, Gospel singer Israel Houghton. On Instagram, the actress revealed her child's name was "Ever James."

"For this child, we have prayed / Just to hear our baby cry / Skin to skin and face to face / Heart to heart and eye to eye…," Adrienne captioned the photo.

Chrissy Teigen and John Legend welcomed their third child in January 2023, and five months later, they welcomed their fourth child, who was born via surrogacy. "We want to say thank you for this incredible gift you have given us, Alexandra," Chrissy wrote on Instagram, referencing her surrogate. "And we are so happy to tell the world he is here, with a name forever connected to you, Wren Alexander Stephens."

Priyanka Chopra and her husband, Nick Jonas, live a fairly quiet life. However, they did break tradition after their child was born to share the good news with the rest of the world. "We are overjoyed to confirm that we have welcomed a baby via surrogate," the actress wrote online.

Million Dollar Listing star Fredrik Eklund and his husband welcomed their child via surrogate in 2017. In an interview with People, the reality stars called fatherhood the "biggest thing that could ever happen to us."

Bring It On star Gabrielle Union and her husband, Dwyane Wade, welcomed their first child, Kaavia James, in 2018 via surrogate. The actress initially admitted she felt like a "failure" after struggling for years with infertility. However, she told Women's Health that she eventually came to terms with it and was excited to let her daughter be "free."

When Tyra Banks announced her son, York, to the world, she thanked the "angel of a woman that carried our miracle baby boy for us." Later, she also showed compassion for those who have struggled "to reach this joyous milestone."

Fitness superstar Shaun T and his partner posted a lengthy Instagram post boasting about their surrogate, Ashley. "First, I wanna say it's UNBELIEVABLE how one person can completely change the course of your life," he wrote. "Ashley, her husband Michael, and their children are such selfless people, and no words can describe our appreciation for them helping us build our family!"

Iconic actress Sarah Jessica Parker opened up about having her child via surrogate in 2009. During an interview with Access Hollywood, she told Billy Bush she was "excited" and super "grateful."

Jimmy Fallon opened up about the struggles he and his partner had trying to have a baby. In 2013, he confirmed the news on an episode of The Tonight Show, saying, "I just want to thank everyone." 

"It's true, we had a surrogate. I can't say anything more because I don't know what the rules are. But I just want to say that there are angels in Dallas, Texas, so thank you so much."

Anderson Cooper told the world he was a father in a heartfelt post on Instagram. "As a gay kid, I never thought it would be possible to have a child," he wrote. Later, he praised those who helped make it possible, including his surrogate. "I'm grateful for all those who have paved the way and for the doctors and nurses and everyone involved in my son's birth. Most of all, I am grateful to a remarkable surrogate who carried Wyatt and watched over him lovingly and tenderly and gave birth to him."

Neil Patrick Harris was extremely open about having his kids via surrogate. In 2011, the actor told People that he and his partner "found an egg donor anonymously through a hilarious process of looking at people's profiles and then an amazing surrogate who had helped a same-sex couple before."

Actress Rebel Wilson announced the arrival of her baby in November 2022. She posted a photo online, thanking "my gorgeous surrogate who carried her and birthed her with such grace and care. Thank you for helping me start my own family; it's an amazing gift. The BEST gift!!"

Alec Baldwin and his wife welcomed their sixth child via surrogate; however, a source close to the couple hinted to People that they weren't too keen on sharing the news out loud. "It's no one's business about a woman's right to choose how and when she expands her family."
