20 Disney movies that are ruined when thought about too hard

Disney movies are a staple in the lives of millions of people worldwide, with the parks alone garnering billions annually from visitors who love nothing more than to get swept away in those magical kingdoms. So much so that Disney fans often overlook some of the more questionable things about Disney. We’re talking about the plots and holes in said plots that have left some scratching their heads if thought about too long. How could one princess write her name at one point but then suddenly have no recollection of that skill when push came to shove? That little one and more as we explore the wonderful world of Disney movies that are ruined when you take a closer look.

‘Beauty and the Beast’ doesn’t add up

‘Beauty and the Beast’ doesn’t add up
Walt Disney Pictures

The spell was cast when Beast was a child, but when they get turned back into their human forms, he’s the only one who seems to have aged. Math not mathing aside, how does one explain Belle’s entire village not remembering they lived near royalty? Were they not being ruled over by them?

What’s the likelihood of Bambi’s survival in the wild, really?

The adults in ‘The Parent Trap’ were trash

The adults in ‘The Parent Trap’ were trash
Walt Disney Pictures

The parents who had themselves set up in a trap were the worst because divorce isn’t that wild of a concept that they couldn’t have split up and shared custody so that their twins didn’t have to grow up separated.

Ariel can write in ‘The Little Mermaid’

Ariel can write in ‘The Little Mermaid’
Walt Disney Pictures

Ariel managed to sign her name on Ursula’s contract but somehow forgot how to write when she got legs. She could have written out the entire predicament to Prince Eric and moved the story along a lot faster.

Here’s what a house isn’t going to do…lift up from its foundation because of some balloons.

Parental guidance was nonexistent in ‘Blank Check’

Parental guidance was nonexistent in ‘Blank Check’
IMDB/Walt Disney Pictures

Blank Check was a lot of ‘90s kids’ dream scenario: getting their bike destroyed by a car, getting a blank check, and making it worth a million bucks. This was Home Alone-coded, but also like Home Alone, one has to wonder about the parents. The parents in Blank Check really allowed their child to go work for some random millionaire they’d never met…? Baby, no. Not to mention the FBI agent who goes on a date with a literal child and then they kiss?! Disney, what?

Eagles is way too big in ‘The Rescuers Down Under’

Eagles is way too big in ‘The Rescuers Down Under’
Walt Disney Pictures

The Rescuers Down Under is such an underrated gem from Disney, but watching it through an adult lens, one realizes there’s no way an eagle that large can exist.

Prince Charming’s vision problems in ‘Cinderella’

Prince Charming’s vision problems in ‘Cinderella’
Walt Disney Pictures/RKO Radio Pictures

Did Prince Charming need glasses? Cinderella didn’t magically look any different the next day. Her hair changed. That boy needed to get his life and his eyes right.

A crime caused ‘The Santa Clause’

A crime caused ‘The Santa Clause’

The entire movie is set into action when Tim Allen’s Scott Calvin causes Santa Claus to perish. Kind of dark…

Concert security is too lose in ‘A Goofy Movie’

Concert security is too lose in ‘A Goofy Movie’
IMDB/Walt Disney Pictures

If there is one thing music fans know, it’s how tight security is at concerts. There was no way Goofy and Max would’ve gotten back there, let alone on stage, and stayed.

Bing Bong, a monster in 'Inside Out'

Bing Bong, a monster in 'Inside Out'
Walt Disney Pictures/Pixar Animation Studios

Disney sleuths out there have hypothesized that perhaps Big Bong wasn’t Riley’s forgotten imaginary friend but a monster from the Monsters, Inc. realm she was trying to forget, and he was riddled with so much guilt for scaring that little girl and that’s why he helped Joy get out.

Parents were too trustworthy in ‘Mary Poppins’

Parents were too trustworthy in ‘Mary Poppins’

No one was going to check the references of the woman who came flying into town with an umbrella before they let her take care of their children?

Literal history books and ‘Pocahontas’

Literal history books and ‘Pocahontas’
Walt Disney Pictures

Disney was wrong for turning colonization into a love story. Plus, they changed the whole legit history of Pocahontas.

People can’t just go up and kiss an unconscious person.

Hannah and Miley look the same

Hannah and Miley look the same
Walt Disney Pictures

The most unserious thing about Hannah Montana is that she’s just Miley in a wig. This is the Clark Kent/Superman of tween pop culture in the ‘00s. How was everyone shocked?

No communication barriers in ‘Tarzan’

No communication barriers in ‘Tarzan’
Walt Disney Pictures

Tarzan communicated perfectly with the gorillas he grew up with, probably speaking like gorillas do but translating it to English for the audience because when he meets Jane, he speaks very slowly, like he’s learning new words. However, how would he pick up on human language that quickly? It would take more than a few seconds to pick up on Jane’s lingo.

Dolores heard it all in ‘Encanto’

Dolores heard it all in ‘Encanto’
Walt Disney Pictures

Dolores could hear a pin drop from a mile away and just let Bruno live in the walls of the house. That’s messed up!

Buzz freezing in ‘Toy Story’

Buzz freezing in ‘Toy Story’
Walt Disney Pictures/Pixar Animation Studios

Buzz came out of the box believing he was a legit space ranger but didn’t talk to Andy and knew to freeze when the boy came into the room. It makes zero sense.

Belle’s accent in ‘Beauty and the Beast’

Belle’s accent in ‘Beauty and the Beast’

Beauty and the Beast  is set in France, but Emma Watson still sounded like British Hermione when she played Belle in the 2017 live-action adaptation.

Scar’s bone collection in ‘The Lion King’

Scar’s bone collection in ‘The Lion King’
IMDB/Walt Disney Pictures

Something about the way Scar kept onto this skull is a little disturbing. Perhaps it was the brother he set up!

Kendra Beltran

Kendra Beltran is a pop culture obsessed writer who spent her youth tirelessly jotting down ‘Total Request Live’ data after school. She took that obsession and a useless college degree, and spun it into enough to pay her rent by writing for MTV Geek, Collider, Popverse, and more. Over the years her interest in pop culture has only grown, and today she finds herself baking while streaming ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race,’ running (slowly) while listening to podcasts about the ‘90s, and hanging out with her dog while taking in emo playlists
