21 of the best 'The Office' relationships, platonic and romantic

The Office was able to thrive in traditional syndication but soared when it became available to stream. Because of that, it’s become one of the few juggernauts of modern television, garnering new fans annually while maintaining the dedicated fanbase that watched since the original NBC days. With all of these eyes always on the fictitious paper company in Scranton, Pennsylvania, there are a lot of opinions as to the characters, plotlines, and pairings seen throughout its nine-season run. We focused on the pairings, going through the best relationships from The Office — romantic and platonic, often sweet but sometimes a little sour.

Pam & Dwight

Pam & Dwight
NBC

She loved Jim, and he, well, was mentally tortured by Jim for years. They shouldn’t have worked, but somehow, Pam was one of the very few people in that office who knew deep down that Dwight had a bit of a heart in him.

Jim & Michael

Jim & Michael
NBC

Jim wanted nothing more than not to be a paper salesman. Because of that, he likely looked at Michael, someone who managed a paper company with all of his heart, as the antithesis of what he wanted out of life. However, he and Michael had some of the best moments throughout the series where they were there for one another: the party at Jim's when they were co-managers, and ultimately, when Jim figured it was Michael's last day and just gave him an "it'll be okay, get outta here" nod.

Phyllis & Stanley

Phyllis & Stanley
NBC

Phyllis and Stanley were goals when it came to the whole work-wife/work-husband situation.

Angela & Oscar

Angela & Oscar
NBC

Who knew the accountants would be the most reckless of the office? From Angela hating almost everything about Oscar to him having an affair with Angela’s husband, it was a lot. In the end, when Angela was at her lowest, Oscar was the one who was there for her, and it showcased they were less like coworkers and more like siblings. There might be drama, but there will always be love between them.

Dwight & Jim

Dwight & Jim
NBC

The Office without Dwight and Jim’s antics is just not something fans can fathom because their back and forth from day one gives the show a heavy dose of comedy, but it’s how their relationship grows that adds to the overall charm of the series.

Michael & Ryan

Michael & Ryan
NBC

One of the most one-sided relationships on Earth.

Darryl & Val

Darryl & Val
NBC

This couple didn’t get too much airtime and weren’t meant to be endgame, but what they did have was a nice pleasantry.

Jim & Pam

Jim & Pam
NBC

Their chemistry is so apparent in the pilot that it’s forever a gag that they weren’t dating since day one and that fans had to endure Rob, Purse Girl, and Karen Filippelli to get to one of TV’s most celebrated weddings for what is clearly one of the greatest couples in TV history.

Michael & Dwight

Michael & Dwight
NBC

There is no better ride-or-die example than Dwight when it comes to how much he loved and cared for Michael, who was not only his boss but also someone he viewed as his best man, a.k.a. "Bestish Mensch."

Ryan & Kelly

Ryan & Kelly
NBC

Angela’s love life was all the drama anyone ever needed in an office setting, but why not sprinkle a little more into the mix with the toxicity that will forever be Ryan and Kelly?

11 of 21

Phyllis & Erin

Phyllis & Erin
NBC

Phyllis and Erin weren’t as noticeable as some other pairings on this list, but whenever they did interact, it was definitely endearing. Fans could tell that while Erin looked to Michael as a father figure at times, Phyllis was the mother she’d craved her entire life.

Dwight & Andy

Dwight & Andy
NBC

Dwight and Andy started out loathing one another, and that hatred only grew as they learned that both had been intimate with Angela during the same period. However, they got past that to become quite the managerial pair.

Jan & Michael

Jan & Michael
NBC

For a slight second, it seemed like Jan and Michael could make it — divorce within a year, but make it nonetheless. Well, then the dinner party hosted by Hades himself happened, and the rest is history, but man, weren’t they fun to watch?

Holly & Michael

Holly & Michael
NBC

There is one romantic couple from The Office that gets a lot of attention, but in reality, Holly and Michael are the best pair in that department. Their sexual chemistry was through the roof, and they matched one another’s energies so well it was heartbreaking for a while to hear Rascal Flatts. Superfans know why.

Kevin & Oscar

Kevin & Oscar
NBC

Oscar is the big brother to Kevin’s naivety.

Darryl & Jim

Darryl & Jim
NBC

Darryl and Jim seemed to have some sort of connection early on in the series, and it only strengthens as the two realize Dunder Mifflin isn’t their forever home.

Dwight & Angela

Dwight & Angela
NBC

Jim and Pam get on a lot of those will-they-won’t-they lists, but let’s be real: Dwight and Angela were the most questionable couple in the series. They were hot and cold from the jump, and only in the last hour did they finally commit to one another. However, it was a ride that fans would take over and over again because it’s that good.

Erin & Pete

Erin & Pete
NBC

Some fans might say, where’s Erin and Andy? Oh, honey, no. Andy and Erin were the worst together, almost as bad as Erin and Gabe. Erin and Pete, though? It was such a relief when Erin finally landed a guy worthy of her.

Pam & Michael

Pam & Michael
NBC

Michael might have done much more damage to his career and personal life if Pam had not been the voice of reason in his life.

Phyllis & Bob Vance, Vance Refrigeration

Phyllis & Bob Vance, Vance Refrigeration
NBC

Bob wasn’t someone fans of The Office got to know on a personal level. All they knew was his name, where he worked, that his libido was not in any sort of trouble, and that he would do just about anything to make Phyllis happy. The last thing was all fans needed to love him and her together.

Dwight & Mose

Dwight & Mose
NBC

Who doesn’t have that one strange cousin that they keep around?

Kendra Beltran

Kendra Beltran is a pop culture obsessed writer who spent her youth tirelessly jotting down ‘Total Request Live’ data after school. She took that obsession and a useless college degree, and spun it into enough to pay her rent by writing for MTV Geek, Collider, Popverse, and more. Over the years her interest in pop culture has only grown, and today she finds herself baking while streaming ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race,’ running (slowly) while listening to podcasts about the ‘90s, and hanging out with her dog while taking in emo playlists
