The teaser for The Mandalorian and Grogu has dropped. Next year, Star Wars will be returning to theaters for the first time since 2019’s The Rise of Skywalker, and as an added bonus, it’s bringing Din Djarin and adorable baby Grogu to the big screen for the first time ever. Fans of the enormously popular Disney+ series The Mandalorian have plenty to be excited about, so here are 3 particularly interesting things about the teaser for The Mandalorian and Grogu.
The trailer’s most memorable moment comes at the end, when Din Djarin and Grogu take down an AT-AT walker, and we zoom out and see that it’s one of many AT-ATs marching around the side of a cliff. Introduced in The Empire Strikes Back, AT-ATs are some of the most memorable Star Wars vehicles with their massive horse-like designs and their ability to withstand any terrain, so seeing them can always bring back the warm fuzzies. Plus, whenever there are AT-ATs around, it’s a guarantee that we’ll have an awesome battle.
Babu Frik, the diminutive technician from The Rise of Skywalker, was instantly memorable with his unique speech and voice. The teaser shows Grogu appearing to be teaming up with members of Frik’s species, Anzellans. But does Babu himself make an appearance? Well, we hear a Babu-like voice shouting “Good shot, baby!” after Grogu takes down a creature in a sewer. The scene is dark, so it’s hard to tell if the Anzellan with Grogu is Babu, but the voice is very familiar.
Fans of the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels can salivate too. The teaser contained a shot of Zeb, one of the main characters from Rebels. Zeb cameoed in an episode of The Mandalorian and later showed up in Ahsoka, so it’s great to be seeing him in live-action once again. In addition, we see Jabba the Hutt’s son, Rotta, now grown up. Rotta, of course, debuted as a baby in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars movie, so it’s like we’re coming full-circle.
The Mandalorian and Grogu is set to release in theaters on May 22, 2026. The teaser gave us plenty more to be excited about as well, such as the first look at Sigourney Weaver in her Star Wars debut and of course, lots of Grogu being adorable. There are sure to be lots of squeals and sighs over the beloved “Baby Yoda” echoing through the theater when the movie comes out. It may not be a mainline Star Wars movie, but The Mandalorian and Grogu looks to be a good time.
