It was viewed 7.4 million times and was watched for 34 million hours that week alone. It was also a critical hit, earning a solid 83% Tomatometer score on Rotten Tomatoes based on critics' reviews.

The series is based on a series of books by the same name that were written by Holly Jackson. The upcoming season is based on the second book in the series, "Good Girl, Bad Blood." It focuses on the 18-year-old main character, Pippa Fitz-Amobi, investigating the disappearance of her friend's brother after the local small-town police drop the ball.
