If you're burnt out on new Star Wars stories, one of the most refreshing installments of the epic saga is sliding under the radar just before the end of 2025. First debuting in 2021, the anthology series Star Wars: Visions is made up of individual animated shorts from a diverse number of studios. While the first season was almost exclusively Anime studios, the second season in 2023 expanded to include animation studios from around the world. So far, each story has been self-contained, but the upcoming third season, Visions, is doing something it's never tried before: Three of the episodes this season are direct sequels to previous episodes in Season 1.
Essentially, Visions Season 3 is continuing some exciting stories that will take Star Wars into dark and sometimes surprising territory. Here's what to expect from Visions Season 3, and why you have to watch it for one kicka-- sequel alone. No spoilers ahead.
Like previous seasons, Visions will consist of nine standalone episodes, each taking place in its own imagined Star Wars continuity. While some of the Visions episodes from previous seasons certainly make sense with existing Star Wars canon, it's best to think of these episodes as riffs on Star Wars ideas. In short, don't worry about dot-connecting too much with these, or you'll go nuts.
That said, three episodes this season are all direct sequels to episodes from Season 1, those episodes are: "The Duel: Payback" (a sequel to "The Duel"), "The Ninth Jedi: Child of Hope" (a sequel to "The Ninth Jedi") and "The Lost Ones" (a sequel to "The Village Bride.")
One crucial note: "The Night Jedi: Child of Hope" is the precursor to a full-blown Star Wars anime series just called Star Wars: The NinthJedi, coming in 2026. So, if you don't feel that this sequel fully continues the story of lost Jedi Kara in a far-future galaxy, don't worry. More of that story is coming next year.
Here's a full list of episode titles for Star Wars: Visions Season 3, plus the official synopses from Disney+ and Lucasfilm:
All nine episodes of Star Wars: Visions will hit Disney+ on October 29. You don't need to stream the episodes in any particular order. However, for episodes 1, 3, and 6, you'll want to rewatch Season 1 episodes 1, 4, and 5, respectively.
If you only watch one episode of Visions, the dark and moody first episode is fantastic. This is "The Duel: Payback," the sequel to the atmospheric 2021 Samurai-inspired "The Duel," featuring a lone lightsaber-wielding warrior, known only as "The Ronin." The new sequel, "Payback," puts some dark spins on established Star Wars tropes, and looks like arresting, alternate-universe concept art come to life. Don't miss it.
