Director D.J. Caruso released images of two major cast members in his upcoming movie venture, “A Visit To Grandpa’s.” Based on Welsh poet Dylan Thomas’ book by the same name, following a young boy who ends up staying with his seemingly eccentric grandfather, portrayed by Anthony Hopkins in the upcoming movie. Originally appearing in the New English Weekly newspaper in March of 1938, it is the first of 10 stories included in Thomas’ book, “Portrait of the Artist as a Young Dog,” published April 4, 1940.

The other headliner to be revealed for the movie is Catherine Zeta-Jones, though her role has yet to be officially listed. With both major names, Hopkins and Zeta-Jones having Welsh roots, it may give movie-goers a good reason to visit this nearly century-old book made into a movie.

From WestEnd Film’s synopsis, we gather that “A Visit To Grandpa’s” is set to be whimsical, stirring hearts through the tale of a lonely boy sent to spend his summer with the wily and eccentric grandfather who lives in the countryside. This is a theme many might be able to relate to, filling them with a similar feeling of dread that the young Artie Wilkinson-Hunt may have anticipated when first being tapped for the role of the boy. However, following the young boy into his grandfather’s world, he finds magic instead of the normal boredom associated with visiting elderly family members.

While most people think of old people as tame and rather mundane, Thomas’ story sees a grandfather with mysterious stories and an impulsive manner, sometimes being outrageous even! Will viewers be able to tell fact from fiction as they watch Hopkins’ adventures with Wilkinson-Hunt? These two are set to build an unexpected bond, as the thrills of mischief become meaningful lessons. The budding bond of grandfather and grandson may prove to be one of the most integral parts of the story.

Two Familiar Names: Setting The Stage

Hopkins is certainly a well-known name in the movie industry, with pivotal roles such as Hannibal Lecter, Ted Brautigan, and even portraying Alfred Hitchcock, just to highlight some of the varied roles he has played in the past. He may be tapping some of that old Ted Brautigan energy from “Hearts in Atlantis” to bring home this integral bond as he did with young Anton Yelchin, who played the part of the young Bobby Garfield. The new movie may bring back old memories for Hopkins in this mysterious movie that has leaked very few details, though readers of the book may have better insight into how everything plays out.

Zeta-Jones is also a well-seasoned actress in her own right, bringing a sense of the gravity of the upcoming motion picture. She’s been a beloved actress for her role as Elena, Catherine, and Isabel Lahiri from “Ocean’s Twelve.” With her roles usually being strong, seductive, or even cunning action characters, she’s also had her toes dipped in romance and comedy. While they haven’t named her role for the upcoming cinema screens, it is certain to be intense and engaging. With both Welsh phenoms having Academy Award wins under their belts, waiting for the theatrical release on May 21, 2027, could keep people glued to the news and hoping for sneak peeks.

Looking To The Future

Reporting from GeekTyrant inform principal photography began in Wales on April 7, 2026. Characterizing the story as delightful chaos and imagination, it highlights the outrageous stories being spun while highlighting mischief and memories. WestEnd Films has been handling world sales and is set to reveal the first footage in Cannes. With little else to go on other than what few crumbs have been dropped, it looks like fans of Thomas will have to wait and see.

Previously, Hopkins and Zeta-Jones have done 2 other movies together, “Red 2,” with Hopkins as a scientist named Edward Bailey and Zeta-Jones as Katja, a Russian secret agent. The other is probably more famously known, “The Mask of Zorro,” where Hopkins plays the father, Don Diego de la Vega, with Zeta-Jones portraying his long-lost daughter, Elena.
