In an interview with GQ, Amanda Seyfried discussed all of her iconic roles, including Needy from 2009's Jennifer’s Body. "I can’t critique this movie. It’s, to me, a perfect movie," she told the outlet. "It's got balls. Diablo Cody was outspoken, beautiful, smart, and funny. We were expressing a certain angst in a very, very specific comedic way in a very specific genre."
The film was directed by Karyn Kusama and written by Cody. She described Kusama as "a fierce advocate of women in storytelling," adding, "She is able to enhance the relationships between women on film and TV. She's able to mine everything she can and she's very, very human and she's very sensitive. But I felt like she cared deeply about the story underneath all of it."
The one problem she can't help but point out is the marketing. "The marketing sucked. It just did and we all agree," Seyfried commented. "[Kusama] just got it all and she put it together so beautifully, and the marketing team cheapened it like it was just a gory romp. I think they ruined it.”
“Megan and I are a really good team. I’m looking forward to the sequel. They’re working on it. I already said thumbs up. I was like, 'Whenever you’re ready, I’m ready,' because I wanna play Needy, I love Needy. It was also the first time I got to play really nerdy," she explained. "We all just had a lot of fun, so I wanna celebrate it by doing a sequel."
When small town high school student Jennifer (Megan Fox) is possessed by a hungry demon, she transitions from being high school evil gorgeous (and doesnt she know it), stuck up and ultra-attitudinal to the real deal: evil/evil. The glittering beauty becomes a pale and sickly creature jonesing for a meaty snack, and guys who never stood a chance with the heartless babe, take on new luster in the light of her insatiable appetite. Meanwhile, Jennifers best friend, Needy (Amanda Seyfried), long relegated to living in Jennifers shadow, must step-up to protect the town's young men, including her nerdy boyfriend Chip (Johnny Simmons).
The actress has also thought about where her and Megan Fox's characters would be doing today. “I just wanna see Needy in a power position -- not necessarily in a power suit, but in a power position. Maybe she runs her branch at Planned Parenthood or something. She’s a bad---," she expressed. "[Jennifer is] probably like somebody’s chief of staff, but she’s kind of dead, right? But is she? I don’t think she is."
A Jennifer’s Body certainly would not be complete without Fox returning as well.
