Amazon MGM's 'Heads of State' starring Idris Elba, John Cena, and Priyanka Chopra Jonas drops first trailer

Amazon MGM Studios started the day by sharing the official trailer, poster, and first look images for Ilya Naishuller's Heads of State. The new action-packed comedy has an incredible cast, including Idris Elba, John Cena, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Carla Gugino, Jack Quaid, Stephen Root, Sarah Niles, Richard Coyle, and Paddy Considine.

In the action-comedy Heads of State , the UK Prime Minister Sam Clarke (Idris Elba) and U.S. President Will Derringer (John Cena) have a not-so-friendly and very public rivalry that jeopardizes their countries’ “special relationship.” But when they become the targets of a powerful and ruthless foreign adversary—who proves more than a match for the two leaders’ security forces—they are begrudgingly forced to rely on the only two people they can trust: each other. Ultimately allied with the brilliant MI6 agent Noel Bisset (Priyanka Chopra Jonas), they must go on the run and find a way to work together long enough to thwart a global conspiracy that threatens the entire free world.

The story is written by Harrison Query, with a screenplay from Josh Appelbaum, André Nemec, and Harrison Query.

Cena and Elba executive produce, and this will serve as an on-screen reunion between the two since The Suicide Squad, which came out in 2021. Elba portrayed Bloodsport, and Cena played Peacemaker, the latter will reprise the role in the second season of the Max series, set to premiere on August 21.

During the press conference for The Suicide Squad, Elba opened up about the dynamic between their characters, saying, "It was a really great experience to explore. If I’m honest, it was one of the things that developed. When you read the script, you sort of see the natural rivalry between John and I and James and the natural dynamics of the whole team. John and I really sort of gravitated to this natural sort of dick swinging competition that was just a lot of fun. So, for us it was a really great fun and James would really egg Idris and John on to make Peacemaker and Bloodsport really pop on screen. I loved every minute of it."

Heads of State premieres globally July 2 on Prime Video.
