Amy Poehler and Seth Meyers joke about a Daniel Day-Lewis 'SNL' audition

Amy Poehler visited her Saturday Night Live pal Seth Meyers on his Late Night show, and they couldn't help but submerge in nostalgia for their shared past.

"Twenty years ago yesterday, you and I auditioned for SNL," Meyers pointed out to Poehler, who dubbed the anniversary "wild."

The comedic duo didn't bask in their own glory for too long before diving into Boy George, Natalie Merchant and Daniel Day-Lewis also auditioning that day.

Did Daniel Day-Lewis really audition? Or is this just a very nuanced comedic bit between two of the funniest people in the world? Either way, we're here for it.

"Do you remember how nervous Daniel Day-Lewis was?" Meyers asked, before saying the three-time Oscar winner did impressions of every Friends character.

"His Monica was insane," Poehler said, as they both giggled and wondered how Day-Lewis didn't land on the cast with them.

Day-Lewis, famous for his intense method acting, retired from acting in June 2017. The 64-year-old further explained his decision in a November 2017 interview with W Magazine.

Meyers and Poehler were memorable "Weekend Update" anchors. Meyers also served as a head writer for the iconic sketch comedy series, and his tenure lasted from 2001-14, when he departed Studio 8H for Studio 8G to launch Late Night with Seth Meyers

Poehler left SNL in late 2008, taking maternity leave after that November's presidential election and never returning. The Emmy winner exited for what was billed at the time as a The Office spinoff, which morphed into Parks and Recreation. She starred as Leslie Knope from 2009-15.
