Andy Serkis may have spoiled a huge casting for “Avengers: Doomsday.” Apparently, Ms. Marvel, played by Iman Vellani, may be returning to the MCU in the highly anticipated film. Marvel Studios is famous for keeping its major upcoming projects under strict lock and key, but occasional slip-ups are practically a tradition at this point. While actors like Mark Ruffalo have typically held the crown for spoiling major cinematic secrets, actor and filmmaker Andy Serkis might have just taken the title.
The unexpected revelation occurred while Vellani and Serkis were doing press for their upcoming animated feature, “Animal Farm,” which Serkis directed. The project is a comedic adaptation of George Orwell’s classic dystopian novel. In the film, Vellani voices two piglets, Puff and Tammy, while Serkis plays Mr. Jones and Old Major.
During a sit-down with Cinema Hub to discuss their upcoming film, the conversation shifted to fantasy franchises. Vellani expressed excitement about “The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum.” In response, Serkis appeared to drop a major hint about her MCU future, saying, “I’m excited to see you in ‘Doomsday’.”
Clearly caught off guard by the sudden mention of the upcoming blockbuster, the actress quickly said, “No, you can’t say that!” However, she chuckled for a few minutes before responding, maintaining a calm demeanor. Vellani’s name was completely absent from the massive five-and-a-half-hour casting announcement held for the movie back in March 2025.
Because of this omission, fans and industry insiders are taking this brief interview exchange as a possible hint that Kamala Khan will indeed be joining the fight against Doctor Doom. Since her initial debut on Disney+ back in 2022, Kamala Khan has experienced an interesting trajectory. Her solo series, “Ms. Marvel,” remains the best-reviewed Disney+ show in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, though it surprisingly did not receive a second-season renewal.
That absence has led to continued questions about her long-term future in the MCU. She later appeared in 2023’s The Marvels, which earned positive reviews but underperformed at the box office. Despite that, Marvel has kept the character active across multiple projects. Vellani reprised her role in the animated Marvel Zombies series, ensuring Kamala remains part of the broader MCU storyline even as her live-action direction remains uncertain.
Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige recently teased New Jersey, where Ms. Marvel is from, as having a role in the film. The comment came after Sir Ian McKellen hinted at a potential spoiler about Magneto destroying the Garden State. According to Entertainment Weekly, Joe Russo downplayed the claim, saying, “I think he might’ve misspoke… I don’t think he destroys New Jersey,” and Feige added, “There’s a New Jersey presence!”
That tease has only fueled speculation about Kamala Khan’s involvement. After her debut on Disney+ in 2022, the character transitioned to theaters in 2023’s “The Marvels.” While the film received mostly positive reviews, it underperformed at the box office, leaving her future in a direct team-up uncertain. Vellani has remained active in the franchise, including voicing the character in the animated “Marvel Zombies” series.
Despite the box office performance of her theatrical debut, Marvel Studios has clearly positioned the young hero for a much larger narrative purpose. At the conclusion of “The Marvels,” Kamala was seen tracking down Kate Bishop to propose forming an entirely new superhero team. With Kathryn Newton confirmed to reprise her role as Cassie Lang, speculation points heavily toward the Young Avengers finally assembling on the big screen.
There is even online chatter suggesting this younger roster of heroes will play a pivotal part in “Avengers: Secret Wars.” “Avengers: Doomsday” is set to hit theaters on Dec. 18, 2026, and although the apparent slip looks promising, keep in mind that the alleged casting has not been officially confirmed or denied by the studio, so take the news with a grain of salt.
