Anthony Mackie promises that 'Avengers: Doomsday' will have "that old Marvel feeling"

It has been confirmed that Anthony Mackie will reprise his role as Sam Wilson/Captain America in Avengers: Doomsday, and the actor is promising that the film is "going to give the audience that old Marvel feeling that they always had."

Mackie has been part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe since 2014's Captain America: The Winter Soldier and most recently starred as the lead in Captain America: Brave New World

"The expectations of what comes along with this role is something that nobody talks about," he previously told Esquire. "Nobody really acknowledges the mental jousting that takes place. When I walk out of this hotel, I don’t walk out of this hotel as Anthony Mackie. I walk out of this hotel as Captain America."

While speaking with IGN, he opened up about preparing to film the upcoming Avengers movie, saying, "We're kicking on down the road, so everybody's getting excited and we're getting the band back together."

He continued to explain, "We're supposed to go out this week and we'll be out there doing it. Everybody's excited. I feel with the script and having the Russo brothers back, it's going to be great. I'm really excited for what this project is going to be."

As for reuniting with directors Anthony and Joe Russo, Mackie shared, "They’re so smart, and they have such a hold on this universe and the history and the comic books that I know they have an idea. I mean, they better have an idea. I don’t know how you put all those people onscreen together and make it work."

During Marvel Studios' five and a half hour live stream, it was revealed that the cast would also include includes Chris Hemsworth, Vanessa Kirby, Tom Hiddleston, Sebastian Stan, Letitia Wright, Paul Rudd, Wyatt Russell, Tenoch Huerta Mejia, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Simu Liu, Florence Pugh, Kelsey Grammer, Lewis Pullman, Danny Ramirez, Joseph Quinn, David Harbour, Winston Duke, Hannah John-Kamen, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Alan Cumming, Rebecca Romijn, James Marsden, Channing Tatum, Pedro Pascal, and Robert Downey Jr.

Avengers: Doomsday will be released in theaters in May 2026.
