Alli Walker (35), singer-songwriter, bagpipe musician and rising country artist, was given the chance of a lifetime when she was asked to open for the legendary Shania Twain during the Churchill Park Music Festival in Canada. After her opening showcase, Twain invited Walker back on stage to perform with her and play a never before heard version of the iconic song, "Any Man of Mine."
Because of the lively crowd and incredible lineup, the performance at the Churchill Park Music Festival was the perfect opportunity for the CCMA Female Artist of the Year Nominee to show off not only her bagpiping abilities, but also her impressive vocals and her charming performing presence.
Walker later posted “THE most memorable day of [her] career” on her instagram page, sharing a video depicting the moment when Twain invites her back on stage with her, the performance, and even giving Twain a brief bagpiping lesson. Twain then suggested they do another duet, but this time they were joined by yet another Canadian singer/songwriter and guitarist, Lindsay Ell. The trio performed Walker's own song "The Whiskey's Gone."
“Yesterday was THE most memorable day of my career," captioned Walker. "Opening for Canadian country queen @shaniatwain at @churchillparkmusicfestival was ALREADY a massive moment, but then getting to go ON STAGE with her, play her song Any Man Of Mine on the electric bagpipes, teaching her the bagpipes, THEN singing my song THE WHISKEY’S GONE with her, @lindsayell and @paulmichaelmusicswas BEYONDDDD!!!! I have no words.”
The performance truly was a memorable and in another post, Walker once again expresses how impactful playing with Twain was.
“They say ‘don’t meet your heroes’, but when they are as genuine, down to earth, generous and sweet as Shania, I’d have to strongly disagree with that statement," she says. "Getting to have chats with her all night and pick her brain for hours, is an experience I’ll cherish forever. I was so inspired and impressed on how her team ran, how she treated others, and how passionate and hardworking she is! It was truly mind blowing. I will take so many tidbits with me for years to come! ”
Following this performance, Walker will continue to gain recognition as she makes her way through Canada at the Mega Worlds Fan Festival 2024 and then return to Nashville to play at Exit/In. With each show, her bagpipe brilliance is sure to win over more and more fans.
