Apple TV+ has decided to nix "Mythic Quest" after four seasons. The show, Rob McElhenney's show outside of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia," was a comedy that took place within the world of a video game company. It had been renewed for a third and fourth season in 2021, and the fourth season finished releasing new episodes on March 26. Upon the news being announced, the executive producers of "Mythic Quest" (including McElhenney) released this statement:
We’re so proud of the show and the world we got to build—and deeply grateful to every cast and crew member who poured their heart into it. To all our fans, thank you for playing with us.
However, "Mythic Quest" is not quite done just yet. Apple has allowed the show to produce an updated ending to the finale to make it not merely a season finale, but a proper series finale. It was done, as per the executive producers, "so we could say goodbye, instead of just game over."
It's an unusual step, to be sure, but a slight alteration was not going to hurt Apple's bottom line, and it buys the company the good graces of the show's creative team, and also its fans. The new, finale-fied last episode of "Mythic Quest" makes its debut on Apple TV+ next week.
