The news that John Malkovich has joined season two of 'Bad Monkey' is also how we learned that, yes, Apple is actually making a second season of 'Bad Monkey.' It's hardly a shock as the show got solid reviews, and Carl Hiaasen wrote a sequel novel, 'Razor Girl,' featuring Vince Vaughn’s Andrew Yancy character. But here’s the twist: season two isn’t adapting that book at all. Instead, showrunner Bill Lawrence, the guy behind 'Scrubs' and 'Ted Lasso,' is cooking up an entirely new story.
'Bad Monkey' is a crime dramedy set in the Florida Keys, with Vince Vaughn firing on all cylinders in motormouth mode. Season one was a good time, so news of a second season is welcome, although “at some point” is the best timeline we’ve got so far on a release date. Plot details are also under wraps. Bill Lawrence has teased that he has three seasons mapped out, so there’s plenty of story waiting.
Of course, a crime show racks up a body count, so fresh blood is necessary. Enter John Malkovich, joining as a series regular. Odds are he ends up as the big bad if we're typecasting.
Now all that’s left is more casting reveals,an actual premiere date, and a plot.
