There’s a Marvel treat coming just in time for Halloween. The new trailer for the Marvel Zombies animated miniseries dropped on YouTube, and it promises a bloody good time. If you prefer your superhero stories with lots of blood and guts and you always wanted to see Captain America and Thanos as zombies, you’re in luck. Even if you’re weirded out by the idea of a zombie Marvel series, the spirit of Halloween might encourage you to give the show a peek. Besides, we get to see Blade.
The trailer lets us know right from the beginning that this will not be a normal Marvel show. In the first few seconds, text flashes on the screen that the trailer is rated TV-MA – right before an arrow shoots directly through the rating and into a zombie’s head, spurting blood everywhere. The blood continues to fly throughout the trailer, with zombies being impaled, sliced in half, and disembowled. We get a glimpse of a zombie Thanos, who was dangerous enough in living form, yet alone undead form.
Did I mention that the heroes become zombies too? The trailer shows Captain America and Hawkeye turned into zombies, along with an army of Wakandans. Yelena Belova states that “all the Avengers are dead,” yet we also see Spider-Man tearing zombies apart with his webbing.
Marvel fans have longed for the vampire assassin Blade to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Well guess what, Marvel Zombies will finally grant their wish. However, while a Blade MCU movie is supposedly in production with Mahershala Ali in the title role, he will not be voicing Blade in the series. Instead, Blade will be voiced by Todd Williams. Still, the trailer gives us a good look at Blade slicing vampires apart, meaning that his fans should have plenty to enjoy.
The four-part series is set to premiere on September 24th, giving audiences plenty of time to stream it before Halloween. The TV-MA rating means that we can expect plenty of bloody violence, perfect for a zombie story. This show is the perfect chance for the MCU to embrace its darker side and give audiences some genuine Halloween thrills. Perhaps it will also open doors for darker and more mature animated shows on Disney+. After all, animation isn’t just for kids, and not all adult animated shows need to be raunchy comedies.
