It’s looking like Boston is the “new” New York. Beloved television show Blue Bloods ended after a 14-year run, and now we see Boston Blue. Viewers of all ages liked the show. It had original plot lines, heartfelt stories, and an endearing cast. Plus, it was nice to see a large family supporting one another. Now, Blue Bloods has a spinoff – Detective Danny Reagan has moved to Boston – so it’s Boston Blue!

What’s the Premise in Boston Blue?

Boston Blue follows Detective Danny Reagan (Donnie Wahlberg) as he goes to Boston to work on the Boston police force. We’re not exactly sure yet how the change is made, but we can assume it’s likely a transfer. Or, potentially, Danny might’ve been a little quick with words (the hothead that he is), and he was made to transfer to Boston.

Boston Blue’s Cast So Far

While Danny is there, he is teamed up with another Detective named Lena Peters. Lena is from a family in law enforcement, similar to Danny. Sonequa Martin-Green, best known for Star Trek: Discovery and The Walking Dead, plays Lena. It was recently announced veteran actor. Ernie Hudson will play Lena‘s grandfather, and Maggie Lawson of Psych fame will play Sarah Silver, a police superintendent.

Between Wahlberg, Hudson, Martin-Green, and Lawson, the cast is off to a good start. Although not much is known about Boston Blue’s storylines and character details, the show has a seasoned team of producers. Jerry Bruckheimer and KristieAnne Reed are two of Boston Blue’s producers, who have a proven track record.

Boson Blue’s Development

Originally, the show’s two writers, Brandon Margolis and Brandon Sonnier, were looking at a police procedural show set in Boston with a Los Angeles police detective transferring into Beantown. However, when Blue Bloods ended and fans were hungry for more of the Reagans, the writing changed to incorporate Detective Danny Reagan (Wahlberg) into Boston Blue.

Thrilled to be part of a new series, Donnie Wahlberg previously posted on social media:

So excited to carry on the tradition, to share so many surprises, to answer some unanswered questions and to welcome all of you — to #BostonBlue! The next chapter in the #BlueBloods legacy begins. I can’t wait!

We’re excited, too. There aren’t many shows that have the staying power that Blue Bloods has had. With the cast so far, and with high production quality, we hope Boston Blue will stick around for a long time.
