'Bosch' Spinoff 'Ballard' Season 2 Confirmed. Here's Everything We Know
Patrick Wymore/Prime

You can't keep a good detective down! After a riveting first season, the hit crime drama Ballard— a spinoff of the popular Bosch universe — has finally been confirmed for Season 2. For fans of the show and the crime fiction of Michael Connelly in general, the continuing adventures of Renée Ballard (Maggie Q) come as great news, especially since Season 1 ended in a shocking cliffhanger.

Here's what we know about Ballard Season 2, straight from Prime Video. Mild spoilers ahead for Ballard Season 1.

Ballard Season 2 Announcement

In a new statement, which was released to the press on October 5, 2025, Prime Video confirmed "that the hit detective drama Ballard has been renewed for a second season. The series, starring Maggie Q as Detective Renée Ballard, will continue to bring the work of New York Times best-selling author Michael Connelly's beloved character to screen exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide."

After appearing in the final episodes of Bosch: Legacy, Ballard starred in her own series, which focused on various cold case crimes in Los Angeles, as well as a larger criminal conspiracy that she only began to uncover at the end of Season 1.

Ballard Season 1 Cliffhanger Demands a Conclusion

In the final moments of Ballard Season 1, after seemingly tying up the loose ends of the primary cold case that pervaded the entire season, Ballard was suddenly arrested in her own home, charged with the murder of a crooked cop named Olivas (Richard Chavira). We know Ballard had words with his guy in the Season 1 finale, but we also know she didn't kill him. But who did? And how will Ballard get out and prove her innocence? Only the writers know!

"It’s a great privilege to have my characters brought to life on screen season after season, and it’s thanks to the fans continuing to tune in that we’re able to do so," author Michael Connelly said in a statement. "I’m especially grateful to Maggie Q for embodying Renee so perfectly, honoring the character as we take her into the next stage of her journey."

Ballard Season 2 Release Window

Although Prime Video confirmed Ballard Season 2, no release date has been set. The cast previously told Men's Journal that they all want the show to run for 10 seasons. So, presumably, now that Season 2 is publicly greenlit and starts filming in the next six months, we could be catching up with Renée Ballard sometime in 2026.

Ballard Season 1 streams on Prime Video.
